Weeks 5-9

The team has made quite a lot of progress throughout the past few weeks. The programming team has managed to code a hit detection that doesn't rely on regular symbol box boundaries. The hit boxes are now accurately placed on the ship and dragonflies actual body as opposed to the actual symbol. The game sprites are also being implemented with multiple frame animations for different actions. The background and space foreground will be having a parallax scrolling effect to better show depth perception and speed.

The design team has been creating newer assets for the laser shots and colony pick ups. The explosion animations are being added to the dragonfly and later for the ship as well. The ship underwent some minor face lifts in terms of where to place the cannon. The color scheme was changed slightly to better match the games background. The colonies have been finished as well for item pick ups. The team will be finishing up with the final asset touch ups to work on the different screen transitions.

Here are some concepts for the the transition screens will look like. A Bright Sponge Games splash screen will be used at the very beginning of the game.

Week 4

The ADB Team, acronym for Attack of the Bio-Mechanical Dragonflies, has made progress both in coding and design. The coders have managed to get an 8-way directional movement working smoothly. The hit detection and collision is being worked and enhanced for the bullet hell that will ensue in the game. The Design team is working on a logo and started looking for concepts of the ship. Richard already knocked a pretty solid illustration of what the enemy will look like.

For the Design of the ship, the main body of the ship has been formed. Although, there are complications for the wing of the ship. Assistance will most likely be required to finish the wing design of the ship.
More will be added to the design later on.

Week 1-3

The Beginning of the Attack

The first few weeks we decided that we are going to work on a side-scrolling shooter game. We were having a hard time deciding what the title of the game was going to be. The concept of the game was going to be a ship on mars that was rescuing a colony from the attack of Bio-mechanical Dragonflies. Then the plot developed into the humans already being colonized on Mars. The humans were digging looking for resources until they awoke the Bio-mechanical Dragonflies, hence starting the evacuation mission while fighting off the threat. At this time, the teams  and themes were being decided among the group. We decided to break up the teams into the Coders and Designers. The coding team is led by Johnathan Hopkins, having Linzi Hall as his wing-girl. On the design team we have Richard Gil as the design lead, with Juan Rosado and Jesus Otero for support. We then proceeded to delegate jobs and started building assets for the game.
